Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, Ontario claimed her first national title with a three stroke win at the 2007 Royale Cup National Women’s Amateur Championship at the Granite Golf Club in Stouffville, Ontario.

The twenty year old Sherlock finished at one over par, three strokes up on 16-year-old Sue Kim of Langley, B.C.

Maude-Aimée LeBlanc of Ascot Corner, Quebec finished alone one stroke back of Kim.

“I never expected this to come so soon,” said Sherlock a member of the National Amateur Team. “It’s really nice because of how my game has improved over the last year. This has been a goal since I played in my first amateur event, but to get here now is great.”

First round leader, Lauren Mielbrecht finished in fourth place at 295. National Team members Kira Meixner of Richmond, B.C. and Lisa Maunu of St. Thomas, Ontario were sixth and seventh respectively. In all, five of the top seven finishers were members of the National Women’s Amateur Team including the top-three.

In the Mid-Amateur division (25-39 yrs.), Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. took home the inaugural title topping Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Mary Ann Lapointe of Georgetown, Ontario.

Little fired a final round 73 to finish at 298 while Lapointe finished 303. Veronique Drouin of Sts-Anges, Quebec was third at 305.

Little also captured the Mid-Master division (40+ yrs.) edging Lapointe and Marie-Therese Torti of Candiac, Quebec. Torti finished in third at 314.

Sherlock has earned the right to play in next year’s CN Canadian Women’s Open at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club from August 11 – 17, 2008. Sherlock had already earned an exemption into the 2007 CN Canadian Women’s Open to be held August 13-19 and will join last year’s champion Jessica Potter of Coquitlam, B.C. in Edmonton.
