The Royal Canadian Golf Association announced today that Scott Simmons has been named the Association’s new Executive Director. Simmons takes over from Stephen Ross who was fired in March. The appointment was announced by Garry West, President of the RCGA.
Simmons prime directive will be to find a sponsor for the currently unsponsored Canadian Open. From 1992 to 2000 Simmons was the RCGA’s Director, Marketing and Communications. Since then he has worked as Vice-President, Marketing and Business Development for The Beer Store in Ontario then for the past couple years with Lakeport Brewery. Simmons is a native of Brantford, Ontario and spent time with Procter and Gamble, IMG and Sales & Merchandising Group. During his time with IMG he was instrumental in developing a 10-year business plan for the RCGA. A business graduate from the University of Western Ontario, Simmons will become the RCGA’s ninth leader in the Executive Director capacity. His first official day with the organization will be on July 23 - opening day of the 2007 Canadian Open. |
